Walleye and Sauger
Competitive walleye fishing seems to
grow in popularity every year with the
emergence of more and more
tournaments. Recreational walleye
fishing has been popular for years
and it always will be because walleye
taste so darn good. Fishermen plan
fishing vacations every year to target
these fish. The northern part of North
America has the best walleye waters,
but there are some lakes and rivers that offer some good walleye
fishing south of Michigan and Minnesota.
Walleye and sauger can be caught many different ways. These fish
are mostly found in deeper water, however, you can find them in less
than 20 feet of water in the spring, fall, and when they are feeding in
the mornings, evenings and throughout the night. It is not uncommon
to catch walleye in water as shallow as 4 or 5 feet, but most of the time,
they are located in deeper water. They are common in lakes and
rivers. The biggest congregations of walleye are in the northern states
and up into Canada. You can also find them in the midwest and in
some southern states as well.
