Basic Sunfish Fishing Techniques

Fishing for sunfish is extremely easy most of the time.
Most anglers set up their kids with a shorter light action
rod so they have better control.  4 to 6 pound test will
usually do the trick on a small spinning or spin-casting
reel.  If you want to keep it simple, set up a line with a
bobber, small hook and a piece of worm.  Most anglers
that don't have as much success are using hooks that
    are way too big.
For anglers that are trying to do some bass fishing while getting their kids some action from sunfish should consider using leeches or lures.  If you use
small leeches, it is harder to get the bait off the hook which will give you more time to concentrate on fishing instead of baiting your kids' hook.  Leeches
will catch bass also, which will give them a nice surprise and an excellent fight on light tackle.  Small lures can be used also.  For more experienced
anglers, small jigs and spinners will produce bigger fish.  For younger anglers, you can set them up with small jigs underneath a bobber and have them
work the bait in slowly with light twitches.  This will also help young anglers learn how to start using lures while getting plenty of action.
