Snook

Snook are found in the waters of
Florida and in some sections of
the Gulf Coast.  It is a very popular
inshore fish.  Fishing for snook is
    similar to freshwater largemouth

bass fishing.  Snook hang out in shallow water, they will strike a variety
of lures and they will come up and attack a lure on the surface.

Catching Snook

Most fishermen prefer using lures for snook and they cover a lot of
water.  You can catch snook from boats, jetties, piers, bridges and the
beach.  Topwater baits are a favorite of most fishermen.  An erratic
retrieve usually works best because this mimics a wounded bait fish.
Snook will strike the lure and follow up with at least a couple of jumps out
of the water.  Fly fishermen also enjoy fishing for snook.  Most streamer
flies, sliders and poppers will work.  When fishing with lures for snook,
most anglers prefer to sight fish for them.  Once you see a fish, you must
present the lure in front of the face without spooking them.  A cast right
on top of them can spook them, but at times it will cause a violent strike.
To ensure more strikes, make sure to cast just in front of them and work
the bait back to the fish.

Natural baits will also work for snook.  Pinfish, shrimp, mullet and squirrel
fish are the most popular baits.  10 to 15 pound test is usually good
enough for catching snook.  Many fishermen tie on a 3 to 4 foot leader
of fluorocarbon line.  Snook are exciting to catch and they taste great.
