| Catching Smallmouth Bass in Clear Water can be found in 15 to 30 feet of water. They will feed in the shallows during the mornings and evenings with some of the best fishing coming at night. The clear water allows them to see everything, including you. This makes fishing very tough during the day. Lighter line combined with fast lures such as crankbaits, minnow- shaped plugs, topwater and small, shiny spoons can be very effective. The bass don't have a lot of time to see a fast lure, which gets a reaction strike out of them. They don't want to pass up a meal and they don't have enough time to see that the lure is fake. If you do fish slow for these fish, small plastic worms and jigs are productive. Sometimes, live bait is the only thing that works in clear water. |
