Ice Fishing for Perch

Perch fishing can be excellent in the winter.  The best
time to catch them under the ice is right before ice out.
You can catch them in shallow water in early and late
winter, but to find them in the middle of winter you will
typically have to fish deeper water.  When you find the
perch during winter, they are fairly easy to catch.  The
    preferred bait is a minnow.

Some anglers will use small jigs, jigging spoons, and even jigs with a spinner attached.  Anything that might attract a perch from a distance will help you
get more strikes.  Using tip-ups over a large area will help you locate the fish.  Once you start catching fish in a certain hole, drill another hole close by
and try some vertical jigging or bobber fishing.  Both methods will work.  Most fishermen will tip their jigs with some type of live bait.  Minnows are best,
but you can also use woms, perch eyes, and even marshmallows to catch these fish.
