Largemouth Bass and Rain

Rainy weather improves bass fishing.  The cloudy skies
reduce the light penetration, which allows the bass to
move around freely throughout the entire day.  A steady
rain is usually best for bass fishing.  It's not too
uncomfortable for most anglers and the bass remain
active all day.  With heavy rains, the water becomes so
dirty and fishing will slow down until the water clears.

Thunder and lightning will also slow down fishing a for a day or so.  If a cold front follows a thunderstorm, fishing can be rough for the next 2 or 3 days.
The only time fishing will improve right after a thunderstorm is when you find areas that have water running into the lakes.  A spillway, sewer drain, creek
or any other type of water runoff into a lake or pond can produce some excellent fishing.  The water will be muddy, but the bass will be feeding there.
There is a lot of food washing into the water including minute organisms and worms, which bring the bait fish and bass into the area.  If there are worms
getting washed into the lake, a plastic worm or live night crawler is the preferred bait.
