Ladyfish are cousins of the much larger tarpon. They have a long, slender body and are fairly small.
Most ladyfish average 2 to 3 pounds, but they can be a blast to catch, especially for younger anglers on light tackle. They are found primarily inshore in bays, estuaries and canals, although they do spawn in offshore waters.
Catching Ladyfish
Ladyfish will eat most natural baits, however, many anglers prefer catching them with fly fishing equipment. Because of their smaller mouths, anglers feel it is much easier to get them to take a small fly. They can be found in schools targeting bait fish and crustaceans. Once you find them, they are fairly easy to catch. Light tackle, small hooks, small baits and flies should be enough to keep you busy with these fish.
