Catching Crappie in Open Water

Catching crappie in open water is the toughest way to
catch these fish.  Some anglers have figured out how to
catch open water crappies, but most anglers don't even
bother with fishing for these fish in open water.  After the
spawn, crappie move into deeper water.  These fish can
be found along a breakline, humps, points and rock
piles.  You can pick crappie up on a fish finder easier
than other fish.  Crappie will school farther off the bottom
than most other fish.  If you can find a school of crappie,
you can catch them.  The hard part is finding them.  Start
by vertical jigging small jigs tipped with a minnow.  Drifting
over these areas with small minnows also produces lots
    of fish.
