California Yellowtail

    Often called the
    amberjack of the
    Pacific, the California
    yellowtail is a favorite
    of the
inshore fishermen of Southern California and the Baja
Peninsula.  Most fish are caught between 5 and 15
pounds; however, some fish in the 30 pound class are
also caught.  This fish is considered good-eating by most
    people.

    Catching California Yellowtail

Most of these fish are caught by anchoring off the kelp
and chumming.  Live anchovies and other small forage
are perfect for chumming.  A single, live bait fish is all that
is needed for catching the California yellowtail when
chumming.  Drifting with this exact bait is also productive.
These fish will school up and it is common to have multiple
fish hooked at the same time.

Some anglers prefer trolling for these schooling fish.
They use small jigs, spoons, feathers or plastic skirts, and
    strip baits.
