The black drum is the largest of the drum family. It is very powerful because of its size and broad shoulders. Black drum in
the 30 pound range are common and they will take some time to reel in.
Catching Black Drum
Black drum can be found inshore or offshore. Most anglers catch these fish in the bays or lagoons. They spawn near the shore in late winter through early spring. Some of the top baits are shrimp, oysters, crabs, mussels and occasionally other fish. Black drum are bottom- dwellers, so make sure to get your baits on the bottom.
