Fishing report: Feb. 15

CHEROKEE Conditions: Surface temperatures are in the mid to high 40s and most of the lake is murky. Species: Bass-Slow to fair. The best fishing has been early in the morning around rocky and red dirt banks with spinnerbaits and jigs. Most fishermen have downsized their baits and fishing them slow. Crappie-Fair. Fishing has been up and down and the fish have been up and down. Some anglers have been getting bites as shallow as 3 feet, most are fining them between 10 and 15 and using jigs, grubs and minnows. Striped bass-Fair. The most consistent fishing is upstream above Point 12. A few are being caught on the surface, most are biting live bait drifted or trolled as deep as 25 feet. CHICKAMAUGA Conditions: Water levels have risen, with surface temperatures in the 40s. Many areas are stained. Species: Bass-Fair to good. Crankbaits and jigs are catching bass shallow and deep, with the biggest fish mostly deep. Shallow pockets along the main channel they are close to the deep areas are producing the most fish.
