Lake Michigan and the Pike River attract thousands of anglers every
year. The lake offers some tremendous fishing for salmon and trout.
During the months of May and June, the coho action picks up close
to the shorelines. Charters bring in many limits during this time of
year as the Coho cruise along feeding on bait fish in the shallows.
During the summer, King Salmon and Steelhead are the main
targets. In the fall, you can catch Kings, Coho, Steelhead and
Brown Trout as they approach the shallows for the spawn. During
the fall, big salmon and trout can be caught close to the shorelines.
Many anglers report good catches from shore during this time of
year. If you are looking for Brown Trout, many anglers report good
catches very early in the spring and during the end of fall through
the month of November. If you can brave the temperatures, there
are some nice brown trout to be caught.
The Pike River (also known as Pike Creek) is a tributary of Lake
Michigan that enters the lake approximately one mile north of the city
of Kenosha. The Pike offers many opportunities in the fall. King
Salmon, Coho, Brown Trout and Steelhead can be caught in the
Pike River, however, the majority of the fish will be King and Coho
Salmon. When timing the fall run, you need to watch for a good
amount of rain and some cold weather. The first couple weeks of
October are usually the best times to fish the river, but you can
catch fish from September into November. The mouth of the Pike
offers some excellent fishing also. The fish will stage at the mouth
until they get some rain and cold weather. Many anglers fish the
river and the lake near the mouth and both spots can be very
productive. Timing is key for catching fish near the mouth and in the
