Calcasieu Lake is located in the southwestern part of Louisiana, just south of Lake Charles. Lake Charles is a very popular vacation destination. Most visitors stay in the Lake Charles area and they head down to fish Calcasieu Lake.
Calcasieu Lake receives freshwater from the Calcasieu River and it connects to the Gulf of Mexico through the Calcasieu Pass at Cameron, Louisiana. The basin is characterized by marshes which can be fresh water, brackish and salt water. Many saltwater species make Calcasieu Lake their home. This lake is known for having one of the best speckled trout fisheries in the country. Fishing is also good for redfish and flounder.
