The Iowa Great Lakes refers to a group of natural glacial lakes in northwestern Iowa.
The 3 major lakes are Spirit Lake, West Okoboji lake and East Okoboji Lake and they
are the largest natural lakes in Iowa. These lakes are very popular among fishermen
and these lakes are a popular vacation destination in Iowa. Big Spirit Lake is the
largest natural lake in Iowa and it consists of 5,864 acres. Big Spirit Lake is a good
lake for walleye, bass and perch. West Okoboji is a very deep lake with areas as deep
as 140 feet. The lake is beautiful with very clear water. West Okoboji is a very popular
lake for boating, which can make it tough on fishermen in the summer. If you can get
out here during the spring and fall, you will have a much better chance of putting some
fish in the boat. East Okoboji is the third largest lake in the system. This lake is long
and narrow and the fishing can be very good on this lake, especially when the other
lakes are crowded with boaters.
