La Salle Lake is a man-made lake that covers over 2,000 acres. The lake serves as a
cooling lake for Commonwealth Edison's
La Salle Power Station. The lake is "perched" so the wind can help to cool the
impounded water. High winds can make this lake very rough and even dangerous.
Make sure to get a weather report before you head out to La Salle Lake. The average
depth of the lake is 15 feet and there is usually a 20 degree water temperature
difference between the two channels. The rocky shoreline provides some cover for a
variety of species.
La Salle Lake has a good population of Smallmouth bass, white bass, hybrid striped
bass and catfish. Walleye, and largemouth bass can also be caught in this lake.
