Lake Michigan is one of the five Great Lakes of North America and it is the only lake
located entirely within the United States.  The states of Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and
Michigan surround Lake Michigan.  In Illinois, Lake Michigan helps to make Chicago
one of the best cities in the world.  There are numerous outdoor activities downtown
because of the lake.  You can see people running, biking, swimming, boating and
sailing all along the lake front.
As far as the fishing goes, Lake Michigan provides the best fishing opportunities in the
entire state.  Many fishing charters are available to take you fishing for
salmon and
trout.  The lake is stocked heavily with chinook salmon, coho salmon, brown trout,
steelhead and lake trout.  Many anglers enjoy fishing for jumbo perch.  They can be
caught from boats and from shore.  Over the past few years, it seems like there are
more
largemouth bass and smallmouth bass in the Illinois portion of the lake.  Bass are
not as prevalent as the salmon, trout and perch, but they are around and there are
some trophy fish as well.  Marinas are available in Chicago, Waukegan and Winthrop
Harbor.
