Apple Canyon Lake is a private lake located in Jo Daviess County, about 60 miles
northwest of Rockford, Illinois. The area has rolling hills and scenic views of the
countryside. It is common to see deer, wild turkey and bald eagles. Apple Canyon
Lake was first developed in 1969 and it is set up so you must own land to have access
to the lake. It has turned into a peaceful, resort community.
The lake has a marina that sells bait, gas and some food. There is also a beach and a
restaurant on the lake. Members also have access to a 9 hole golf course, hiking
trails, tennis courts, camping and a clubhouse with a pool.
The main attraction is the 480 acre lake that has brought many fishermen into this
community. Apple Canyon Lake is one of the best largemouth bass fishing lakes in the
state of Illinois. With live bait, a good bass fisherman can catch 40 to 50 bass in a day.
There are tons of bass in the 12 to 15 inch range and big bass in the 7 to 8 pound
range have been reported over the years. You can also catch smallmouth bass,
walleye, northern pike, crappie, catfish, muskie and bluegill.
