There are 5 huge mountain masses that protect the coast from the winds. This keeps
the sea conditions calm which makes navigating the waters around Kona much easier.
Fishing is very good for a variety of species such as 6 species of billfish, tuna, mahi
mahi, ono and several species of shark. When fishing offshore, you never know what
you're going to catch. The fishing is always exciting on the Big Island. There are also a
variety of bottom fish to fish for as well.
