Of the 100 coastal islands that make up Florida's Lee County, Sanibel Island and and
its neighbor Captiva Island are the best known. These islands are connected to the
mainland by a three-mile-long causeway from the mainland. Sanibel Island is known
world wide for its shelling with more than 200 varieties of shells that litter the beaches.
There is even an annual Sanibel Shell Fair that attracts thousands of visitors. Sanibel
and Captiva Islands also offer some of the best fishing in the state. Snook, redfish,
trout and tarpon are here in abundance with other species available as well. Hire a
charter and you will have a chance at the inshore slam: which is catching a snook,
redfish, trout and tarpon.
