Lake Mead is located on the Nevada / Arizona border. It is the largest man-made lake
and reservoir in the United States. The lake was formed by water impounded by
Hoover Dam and it extends 110 miles behind the dam. Lake Mead is a popular lake for
fishing and boating, although it has been going through a drought (February 2008),
which has had an impact on the lake. To keep up with what's going on with Lake Mead,
make sure to follow the news because the drought has been followed in the national
news. Here is a link to a news article about Lake Mead possibly drying up by 2021. We
will continue to update this page periodically, but make sure to follow the news if you
want current updates.
Lake Mead provides a good fishery for largemouth bass, striped bass, crappie, bluegill
and catfish. The lake is known for its excellent striped bass fishing with an occasional
fish in the 30 to 40 pound range. It is fairly common to get your limit if you are an
advanced angler or with a fishing guide. Smallmouth bass have been present in the
past few years, although, people aren't sure how they got into the lake.
For information regarding fishing guides, marinas, lodging and bait shops, check out
our Lake Mead page for Nevada, since most of the businesses that we found for Lake
Mead were located in Nevada.
We did find the Willow Beach Harbor Marina and it is located in Arizona.
