Lay Lake is a 12,000-acre reservoir located thirty-five minutes south of Birmingham off
I-65 and fifteen miles south of Columbiana in east-central Alabama.  Lay Lake borders
St. Clair, Talladega, Shelby, Coosa, and Chilton Counties.    The lake is a popular lake
for recreation.  There are several public access areas for boating and fishing.  Several
fishing tournaments are held at Lay lake every year.

    Fishing:  Lay lake is a very popular fishing lake.  Largemouth bass and spotted bass
    are the most popular species in these waters.  There are high numbers of 2-3 pound
    bass (largemouth and spotted).  Crappie are also abundant in Lay Lake.  9-12 crappie
    are common here.  Many people enjoy fishing for bream, hybrid striped bass and
    catfish also.
