| Tubes and Trailers deserve their own category because they are so popular and there are so many different styles today. Tubes and trailers are most commonly uses as trailer on bass jigs. More tournament fishermen use jigs than any other lure, so the trailers that are used to tip these jigs are very important. How To Use Tubes and Trailers Tubes and trailers are used with bass jigs or on jigheads. Trailers are used to tip bass jigs and they are used around all types of cover and they produce some very big fish. Tubes can be used a little different than trailers. Tubes resemble a crayfish and they will work by themselves on a jighead. Some anglers will tip jig with a tube, most often, they are used by themselves. Use tubes with a jigging retrieve that acts just like a crayfish. A couple of shore jerks followed by a pause usually works best. Bass will hit the tube on the pause most of the time. Some anglers have some success using a tube on a single hook with no weight for spawning bass. The slow fall to the nest drives bass crazy. Where To Use Tubes and Trailers Trailers, fished on jigs, can be used around all types of cover. Use tubes in any lake that has rocky shorelines or rocky bottoms. Odds are that crayfish are living around the rocks and bass will be there feeding on the crayfish. If you aren't opposed to fishing for bedding bass, using a tube can produce some big results on the beds. Types of Fish Caught on Tubes and Trailers The most common fish caught would definitely be bass. Most pike fishermen don't realize how good jigs tipped with trailers will work for pike. Many tournament bass fishermen will tell you that they catch a lot of pike on jigs and trailers when they are fishing lakes that has populations of pike. Pike love the free fall of the jig and the trailer entices them to bit. Problems With Using Tubes and Trailers There aren't too many problems with using tubes and trailers. Just make sure you're using the correct weight and fish around cover. Tubes and trailers aren't made to be used as search baits. Use them to catch fish in and around cover and you will do well. |
