Soft Jerkbaits are the soft plastic jerkbaits.  The soft
jerkbaits are primarily made for bass, although you can
catch other fish on them also.  Jerkbaits mimic wounded
baitfish below the surface.  They have the name jerkbait
because you must jerk them to give them their action.
They don't have any action if reel them in with a steady
retrieve.  They are a great bait for catching large fish.
Bigger fish love an easy meal and a big, wounded baitfish
is as easy as it gets.

How To Use Soft Jerkbaits
Using soft jerkbaits is very similar to using other soft
plastics.  Find some cover, preferably weeds, and start
making casts.  Soft jerkbaits are made to imitate a
wounded baitfish, so your retrieve should be done with a
quick jerk or two followed by a pause.  Most fish will hit the
lure on the pause.

Where To Use Soft Jerkbaits
Fishing near weeds and wood will give you the best results
with jerkbaits.  These lures are not made to cover wide
open areas of water.  Soft jerkbaits are made to be fished
a little slower than hard jerkbaits.  Keep the jerkbait around
the cover and work the area thoroughly.  Many large fish
have to see the jerkbait a few times before they decide to
strike.  Stay above underwater weeds, on weedlines, and
shallow flats near dropoffs.

Types of Fish Caught on Soft Jerkbaits
Bass are the primary fish caught on soft jerkbaits, but you
can also catch pike, muskie, walleye, rock bass, trout and
just about anything else that hits a minnow.  Some soft
jerkbaits are made small which allows you to even catch
some big panfish also.

Problems With Using Soft Jerkbaits
A lot of anglers try to use these as a search bait and they
are retrieving them too fast.  Stick to the cover and work
slowly through areas.  These lures will trigger some
inactive fish into feeding.  If you are working open water or
bringing the lure in too fast, you will not give these fish a
chance to hit.
