| Egg Patterns: Fishing with egg patterns are very popular for spawning salmon and trout in rivers and streams. Salmon and trout will come into rivers and streams from lakes and the ocean to spawn. Once the spawning takes place, many eggs flow downstream in the current. Salmon will feed on these eggs. There are quite a few different options to fish with. Many of the major manufacturers produce eggs in jars that have a scent to them. These work very well. Most anglers that use these types of eggs will keep the baits on the bottom and wait for a bite. There are also others rigged with a single hook and an egg made of plastic or yarn. These types of patterns are preferred by anglers that will continue to make casts and drift them in rivers and streams. The single hook pattern eggs don't come off the hook, which allows fishermen to make many casts working different areas of the river or stream. The egg patterns come in other varieties as well. There are actual spawn sacs made of plastic. All egg patterns will produce, but the single egg works best when fly-fishing in rivers and streams, and the scented eggs in jars usually produce best when still-fished in lakes and ponds for trout. |
