| Bass Jigs are the most popular lure for tournament bass fishermen. They are very effective and they catch bass in almost every situation. You can fish them deep, shallow, around cover and even along drop-offs in open water. Bass jigs were made for bass, but they work extremely well for northern pike also. They are usually tipped with a trailer, plastic crayfish, or a pork rind. You've probably heard of fishing a jig and pig. It is called this because pork rinds are very common trailers for a bass jig. How To Use Bass Jigs Bass jigs are used most commonly with the flippin' and pitchin' techniques. They are used around cover most of the time so a flip of the jig is all you need for most situations. Bass will hit the jig on the fall 99% of the time so make sure you jig up and keep the line taught as you let it fall. By controlling the fall, you will feel the hit and be able to set the hook. Where To Use Bass Jigs You can fish them deep, shallow, around cover and even along drop-offs in open water. They are most effective around shallow cover. Types of Fish Caught on Bass Jigs Bass are the most common fish caught with bass jigs, but you can catch other fish such as pike, walleye and muskie. Catching pike is very common with these jigs. Problems With Using Bass Jigs These jigs are so effective that some anglers use them too much instead of switching to another lure that might catch more bass on that specific day. If bass are very active, a fast-moving lure that covers more water will produce more fish. I know that the jig is such a good lure, but some times you just have to not use it to be more productive. Other than that, anglers don't really have problems fishing with bass jigs. |
