| An aerator is used to help keep live bait and catch and release fish alive in the bait bucket or livewell. The key to keeping fish alive longer is to make sure they have plenty of oxygen. Anglers need to understand that it's not just the size of the container that you are keeping the fish in that helps keep them alive. Even if you have a large livewell, the fish will consume all of the oxygen and eventually die if there is no aeration or fresh water with oxygen. In a smaller container, they would die faster. If they have plenty of oxygen, fish can live for a long time in a big or small container because there would be plenty of oxygen to keep them breathing. Using an aerator will help keep fish alive for a long time. Bait fish can be kept for weeks with proper aeration. There are plenty of aerators on the market today. It would be a good idea to pick up one that runs off of a battery as well as one that plugs into an outlet. This will make it easier for you to keep bait at home and then take it back out to the lake. Remember that there are restrictions for transporting bait fish in certain states so make sure to follow your state's regulations. |
