$20M tug-of-war over cabin funds

  • A quiet $20 million tussle is taking place in Montana, with the winner controlling the money and interest raised through the 2002 sale of 265 cabin sites around Canyon Ferry Reservoir.

  • The Department of Interior claims the federal government owns about $20 million socked away in the Montana Fish & Wildlife Conservation Trust. Members of two local boards created to manage the trust fund, as well as Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., say the people of Montana own the $20 million.
