Cape San Blas Surf Fishing

Headed to Cape San Blas for a summer vacation.  Trip was great.  Didn’t do enough fishing, but we did catch some fish.  We heard that it was possible to catch trout, redfish, sharks, pompano, blues, etc.

All we caught off of the beach were tons of catfish and a couple of real small baby sharks.  Not sure what kind of sharks, but they were definitely sharks.  Kind of cool and scary at the same time.

I actually did see Kevin Sewell’s post on the fishing out of the marina when he was down here.

He had a picture of a nice flounder and a big trout, so I figured that I’d try the marina with some pinfish and bull minnows.  Catching the pinfish was easy with a sabiki rig tipped with shrimp and I bought some minnows.

We did catch quite a few smaller flounder and lost a couple of big fish.  Definitely better than catching the catfish in the surf.  Next time, I may just get a charter and go out in the bay.

The marina was in Port St. Joe and there is a bait and tackle shop called Bluewater Outriggers.  It’s a great little shop with much more than just fishing stuff.
