Key West Dolphin: Fishing for Dolphin (Mahi Mahi) in Key West
Dolphin are a popular offshore fish around Key West. During the summers, dolphin (mahi mahi) are much more abundant in area waters. These fish are caught mostly by trolling offshore with ballyhoo rigs, although, artificial baits such as feathers and spoons will work as well.
Since dolphin will typically school up, you have a chance of getting multiple hook-ups by chumming behind the boat while someone brings the first fish into the boat. Casting bait or artificial lures to these schooled up dolphin will work. The chum usually gets them into a frenzy.
