Salmo Sting Review - Salmo Lures

“Trigger more strikes? Well, no other long body minnow bait does it like the Sting. Testing shows that in the suspending models, actually suspend! We are talking about not changing depth AT ALL once it gets to a certain depth. How is it done? It’s a trade secret from the Salmo lure designers, but nothing like it has ever been created! Most suspending baits drift up or down within seconds of stopping, the Sting just does not move.

Also available in floating models, the Sting is easy to fish and works amazingly well as a twitch bait on the surface or as a high speed trolling lure. This is one versatile and effective Salmo lure. Bass, Walleye, trout, pike and dozens of saltwater fish have fallen victim to the Sting of Salmo.” From Salmo Lures

Our Review:  Dependable crankbaits that just catch fish.  You can catch largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike and walleye on these lures.  They will cover depths of 2 to about 12 feet deep depending on the size and if you are casting or trolling.

Salmo Chubby Darter Review - Salmo Lures

“It is hard to believe a lure that has only been sold for six years can become a classic, but the Chubby Darter has become a “must have” among ice fisherman. The unique action of the Chubby Darter is primarily for vertical fishing where the bait quivers and darts as the angler pulls upward on the rod tip. Trout, perch, crappie, walleye and pike all fall for the Chubby Darter.

Our Review:  We like ‘em.  (especially the perch color) Many anglers don’t like to fish vertical over deep water, but they are really missing out.  Use your electronics to find some deep water structure where fish are located, then drop this lure down to the bottom and start jigging it up and then let it fall.  Repeat the process until you’ve reached your limit.  A good lure for catching crappie, especially slab crappie, perch, white bass, yellow bass, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, pike and trout.

Salmo Lure Image

“It might not look it, but this little crankbait is totally revolutionary. Made from high density foam, not flimsy balsa wood or hollow plastic. The Hornet is a super durable crankbait that will catch you hundreds of fish without falling apart. The Hornet’s rod shaking action triggers fish like walleye, crappie, bass and trout. Ideal for trolling and casting with great success. By far, the Salmo Hornet is the best multi-species fish catcher you’ll ever own.”  From Salmo Lures

Our Review:  Definitely up there with the rapala crankbaits.  Some anglers even think this is a better crankbait.  We’ll leave that up to you to decide.  It’s a very good crankbait, especially, the perch color.  Very good color selection also.  This crankbait will catch walleye, bass and northern pike.

Devil's Tongue - Saltwater (Click Image for Colors)

“Injected with pure air, floats most hooks! Hand poured.”  From Creme Lures

Our Review:  Because it will float most hooks, it looks great on a hook rigged for carolina rigging or drop shotting.  Good fresh water and salt water lure, although, we like it a lot more for fresh water fishing.  Largemouth and smallmouth bass love it.

Silver Side Jig (Click Image for Colors)

“Unlike conventional jigs, this patent-pending lure offers mylar reflecting film which hides the weighted body. This unique body style has the hook shank concealed and running inside the length of the body. The mirror-like finish mimics the reflection of baitfish. The fin-shaped tail has been replaced by feathers for added attraction.”

Our Review:  Excellent panfish jigs.  These silverside minnows will do a number on crappie, perch and even some big bluegill.  Will also work for largemouth and smallmouth bass.  These jigs are excellent for schooling bass that target smaller minnows near the surface.

DT (Dives-to) Fat Series Review - Rapala

DT (Dives-to) Fat Series  “Throw your fat around with the first fat body DT from Rapala. Other crankbaits fear heavy cover, but the aggressive wobble and square lip of the new DT Fat plow through cover while rooting out the hawgs.” From Rapala

Our Review:  This is a good shallow water lure and many anglers love these fat body baits.  We tend to throw lighter lipless crankbaits in shallow water or around shallow cover, but these lures do catch fish.  With more of a bluegill shape to it, it’s going to work better on bodies of water where bluegill is the main source of food.  Probably a better largemouth lure than smallmouth, but that’s just our opinion.

Clackin’ Rap Review- Rapala

Clackin' Rap   “The lipless Clackin’ Rap creates a distinctive sound and vibration profile that allows fish to zero in. The uniquely designed sound chamber features a single steel ball and external metal discs that transmit a distinctive clackin’ sound with maximum vibration. The translucent textured body with internal holographic foil creates an extremely seductive flash. Simply cast, allow to sink to desired depth then steadily retrieve.”  From Rapala

Our Review:  A good-looking bait with a unique look and a distinct sound.  It’s tough to make a lipless crankbait better than the original Rat-L-Trap, but this is definitely deserving of a spot in the tackle box.  It will definitely catch fish, especially largemouth and smallmouth bass.  If you fish bodies of water that get a lot of fishing pressure, this may be a good lure to throw because it is a little different from most of the lipless crankbaits that are typically used.  Sometimes, something just a little different is all you need to put a couple of extra fish in the boat.
