Salmo Sting Review - Salmo Lures

“Trigger more strikes? Well, no other long body minnow bait does it like the Sting. Testing shows that in the suspending models, actually suspend! We are talking about not changing depth AT ALL once it gets to a certain depth. How is it done? It’s a trade secret from the Salmo lure designers, but nothing like it has ever been created! Most suspending baits drift up or down within seconds of stopping, the Sting just does not move.
Also available in floating models, the Sting is easy to fish and works amazingly well as a twitch bait on the surface or as a high speed trolling lure. This is one versatile and effective Salmo lure. Bass, Walleye, trout, pike and dozens of saltwater fish have fallen victim to the Sting of Salmo.” From Salmo Lures
Our Review: Dependable crankbaits that just catch fish. You can catch largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike and walleye on these lures. They will cover depths of 2 to about 12 feet deep depending on the size and if you are casting or trolling.

Salmo Hornet Review - Salmo Lures

“It might not look it, but this little crankbait is totally revolutionary. Made from high density foam, not flimsy balsa wood or hollow plastic. The Hornet is a super durable crankbait that will catch you hundreds of fish without falling apart. The Hornet’s rod shaking action triggers fish like walleye, crappie, bass and trout. Ideal for trolling and casting with great success. By far, the Salmo Hornet is the best multi-species fish catcher you’ll ever own.” From Salmo Lures
Our Review: Definitely up there with the rapala crankbaits. Some anglers even think this is a better crankbait. We’ll leave that up to you to decide. It’s a very good crankbait, especially, the perch color. Very good color selection also. This crankbait will catch walleye, bass and northern pike.

DT Flat Sure Set Series Review - Rapala
“The upgrade process continues with the new DT Flat. This series of lures designed with a flat profile, providing maximum flash that attracts otherwise disinterested fish, is the perfect candidate for the VMC Sure Set hook. The single accentuated arm converts near misses and short strikes into catches. The in-line design allows the front hook to hang down, while the back hook is positioned in the “scorpion” upright position. To ensure true tracking, only an in-line hook of this size could be used. Anything else would inhibit the world-renowned Rapala “wounded-minnow” action. Hand-tuned and tank-tested, these lures will run straight and true right out of the box. With the DT action built-in, this series is a natural for both pro and novice alike.” From Rapala
Our Review: OUTSTANDING crankbait. We already loved the flat series crankbait, but we think the hook selection for this lure is a definite upgrade. Improved hook sets are noticeable the first couple of times on the water. Shallow water bass, pike and walleye. Go buy yourself some. Seriously…..Go get some and use ‘em. They are great.

DT Fat Sure Set Series Review - Rapala
“Touting the DT family reputation, the DT Fat SureSets dive down fast and stay there. The snowplow lip protects from hang-ups, and by briefly pausing as soon as you hit an obstruction, the buoyancy of the lure kicks in and responds with a quick fish striking action sure to tantalize the weariest of species. Two hookem and holdem VMCᆴ SureSet hooks ensure your hawg is not going anywhere.” From Rapala
Our Review: Good shallow water crankbait, especially if you like the fat body crankbaits. Good wobbling action. We love the hooks - makes for an easy hook set.

DT (Dives-to) Series Review - Rapala
“Rapala DT Series lures, designed by crankbait authority David Fritts, all dive faster and stay in the strike zone longer than any other crankbait on the market. Numerous tournament wins and record catches in the series’ maiden year attest to its superior design and fish-catching function. DT Series lures are made from the top seven percent of select balsa wood. Perfectly consistent wood combined with carefully placed internal weights, a tapered fuselage and a thin tail creates the ultimate crankbait action.” From Rapala
Our Review: Another very good crankbait by rapala. It’s not our favorite from Rapala, but there are so many great lures to choose from Rapala that we are going to have our favorites and this isn’t one of them. Designed by a crankbait expert, this may be a good one to put in the tackle box.

DT (Dives-to) Flat Series Review - Rapala
“Lean and mean, the new DT Flat Series embraces the family motto: “Dive to a specific depth and stay there, as long as you can.” This first flat-sided balsa crankbait from “Rapala, the DT Flat Series lures offer a tighter, brighter shimmering action than the original DTs. The highly visible profile is the perfect way to pull bass off ambush points and from deep points. An enhanced coffin lip deflects better off underwater obstacles in a darting, escape-style blast. To enhance the flat sides, new patterns had to be developed, providing the maximum amount of contrast. Metallic paint scales add a cadence flash as the lure tightly wobbles on return.” From Rapala
Our Review: Comparing crankbaits that have lips on them, this is easily our favorite shallow-water crankbait right now. The flat series crankbaits are pretty much perfect. They run true right out of the box. Their action is great and there is a good color selection to choose from. If you don’t have these lures in your box, that’s fine. Leave more fish for us. Just a Great, Great crankbait for bass, walleye and pike (especially bass and walleye).

DT (Dives-to) Fat Series Review - Rapala
“Throw your fat around with the first fat body DT from Rapala. Other crankbaits fear heavy cover, but the aggressive wobble and square lip of the new DT Fat plow through cover while rooting out the hawgs.” From Rapala
Our Review: This is a good shallow water lure and many anglers love these fat body baits. We tend to throw lighter lipless crankbaits in shallow water or around shallow cover, but these lures do catch fish. With more of a bluegill shape to it, it’s going to work better on bodies of water where bluegill is the main source of food. Probably a better largemouth lure than smallmouth, but that’s just our opinion.

Deep Tail Dancer Review - Rapala
“Specifically designed to get deep into where the lunkers lie during the mid-summer to early fall months, the Deep Tail Dancer will prove to be an angler’s best companion. Incorporating all the positive attributes that have made the Tail Dancer a success, the Deep Tail Dancer features an enlarged extreme diving lip that plummets the lure to 30-plus feet with ease. Front red VMC Pyramid Point hooks (for a wounded minnow simulation) offer quick piercing and the strength to withstand the fiercest battles. New smaller size allows the Deep tail Dancer to work the bottom in 15 feet.” From Rapala
Our Review: One of the top crankbaits for trolling deep water. Let out 100 feet of line with 10 to 12 pound test and you’ll be 20+ feet down where the big bass, walleye and northern pike hang out in the summer and fall. Also works on salmon and trout. Great color selection as well.
