Petersburg, Alaska is primarily a Norwegian fishing community and boy are there plenty of fish to be caught here. All 5 species of Northern Pacific Salmon can be caught here from the summer months through early fall. Many of the fishing charters target the open waters of Petersburg, Alaska for king salmon and halibut. When fishing for halibut, anglers can run into some cod and other rock fish. In nearby rivers and lakes, salmon and trout are possible.
The Petersburg area has a nice run of fish every year. From May through mid-June, King Salmon are available in good numbers. Halibut are good from May through September, but the fishing really picks up here from July until the middle of September. Silver (Coho) Salmon get going in July and continue to stay strong through September.
