The river fishing in Alaska is outstanding.  Salmon and trout make annual runs up quite a few different rivers.  Some rivers have people standing shoulder to shoulder in some sections while other rivers will provide fishing opportunities with thousands of salmon and not another person in sight.  The Kenai, Russian and Copper rivers all have some excellent salmon fishing in them.

The Kenai river is located in the Kenai Peninsula of south central Alaska.  It is the most popular sport fishing destination in the state.  Each year provides 2 runs of chinook salmon, coho salmon, sockeye salmon and one run of pink salmon.  Rainbow trout and dolly varden are also available.

The Russian river is famous for its salmon fishing as well.  Located on the Kenai Peninsula, this river is known for 2 runs of sockeye salmon each year and one run of coho salmon.  These runs occur in the summer months of June and July.

The Copper river is located in south central Alaska and it has annual runs of salmon as well with over 2 million fish entering this river every year.  Chinook, sockeye and coho salmon all make runs into this river.
