Sebastian, Florida Snook Fishing Video

I have been hanging out at www.myoutdoortv.com, which has got to be the best video website for fishermen.  The website has a ton of fishing videos online from Babe Winkleman to some start-up shows.  I am going to start blogging about some of the videos that I enjoyed and I will tie them into our featured fishing destinations throughout the country.

The video below shows some Snook fishing in Sebastian, Florida.  The hosts get a young angler into some decent snook.  Check out the video below and the links to our Sebastian, Florida business directory.

Heddon Torpedo

Product Review:  Heddon Torpedo

Heddon Torpedo

The Heddon Torpedo is a classic topwater lure that should be in your tackle box if you enjoy topwater bass fishing.  This lure will catch a variety of fish, but I use this mostly for largemouth bass from late spring through early fall.

There are currently 4 different sizes of the torpedo:  teeny, tiny, baby and magnum.  I prefer using the baby and magnum sizes because they seem to work better for bigger bass.  Both of these lures will catch plenty of bass in 12 to 15 inch range and I have caught many bass in the 3 to 5 pound range with the baby and magnum torpedo.  Most of my success comes from a quick twitch and a pause of 5 to 10 seconds.  You will get most of your strikes on the pause, so be ready.  However, you need to make sure that you don’t set the hook too soon when a fish surfaces.  There will be many strikes where the bass will just miss the lure and if you can avoid setting the hook, you can give the lure another twitch or two, which will usually get the bass to come up again and hit the lure.

*On a side note, I usually have another rod set up with a 7 inch plastic worm.  If you continue to get fish to come up and miss the bait, try to follow up with the worm.  It works many times.  Just don’t add any weight to the worm or the line.  The bass that missed the torpedo was feeding near the surface, so you don’t want your worm sinking to the bottom too fast.  A free fall with a worm is a great way to entice a bass that came up and missed the torpedo.

You can find the torpedo at a variety of stores from walmart to bass pro shops to cabelas and others.

Product Review:  Uncle Buck’s Rattle Shad

Uncle Buck’s Rattle Shad

I figured that I’d get the product review section rolling with one of my favorite lipless crankbaits on the market.  This lipless crankbait runs extremely well, looks very realistic and has an awesome rattle noise, which makes it a perfect lure for fishing 4 to 12 feet of water around and over weeds, rocks and other types of cover and structure.  The fall is a great time to fish fast with many types of fish moving in shallower to feed on bait fish.  I have caught largemouth and smallmouth bass, walleye and northern pike on this lure.

Uncle Buck’s Rattle Shad is also very affordable.  It typically retails under $3.00 at Bass Pro Shops.  You should have quite a few of these in your box at that price.
